Feminism and Religion: Embodying Gaia

I have a new article out today on Feminism and Religion. This one is about ecological healing for the earth while imagining the divine as a mothering, compassionate, feminine deity. I bring out some of the wonderful work of Rosemary Radford Ruether in “Gaia and God: An Ecofeminist Theology of Earth Healing” (New York: Harper Collins, 1992).

I walk through the story of Colette Casburn Numajiri‘s vision with Free Sophia and the “Goddess Project: Made In Her Image.” And how she partnered with the photographer David Clanton to help people imagine the divine with feminine bodies.

The article is available here.

I hope you’re as excited to see the story as I am!
